PMAS-AAU Wins PSF Inter Universities Science Quiz Competition

ISLAMABAD (January 3, 2018): Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University team won 1st position in science quiz competition among students of Natural Sciences and emerging technologies on "Climate Change and Biodiversity" from Universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on 3rd January, 2018.

The Competition was organized by Pakistan Science Foundation as a part of its Science Popularization Programme.

The 2nd and third positions were won by National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) respectively.

Glimpses of the Science Quiz Competition

Overall five universities participated in the competition held at COMSTECH Auditorium and each team comprised 3-student. COMSTECH Coordinator General Dr. Shaukat Hameed was the Chief Guest while PSF Chairman Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, ECO Science Foundation President Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro, Ex-Chairman of PSF Dr. N.M. Butt, a large number of scientists and university students participated in the event. Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH) DG Dr. Muhammad Rafique, International Islamic University Islamabad Botanist Dr. Ibrar Shinwari and Chief Editor Engineering Cap Mr. Asghar Hayat were the judges of the competition.

The top three winner teams were awarded cash prizes amounting to Rs 20,000, Rs, 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Shields and certificates were also awarded to the winning teams.

PSF Chairman Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf said that the Foundation, in order to pass on domino effect of Science to the society, is energetically drawn in to promote and popularize science in the country. The Foundation is undertaking a number of activities. Among these, capacity building of young students is one of the key activities of Foundation, he added.

He said that the objective of quiz competition was to encourage students to look beyond their textual knowledge and establish a relationship between theory and application of the learnt scientific concepts. He also spoke on importance of the Climate Change and Biodiversity.

The Chief Guest appreciated the PSF initiative to organize the competition on the vital subject of Climate Change to highlight its importance for future survival of mankind and biodiversity on this planet earth. Dr. Shaukat Hameed spoke on the environmental issues of Islamabad, especially the increasing pollution in natural streams of the Federal Capital. He called upon students to work for solving environmental issues in the country.
