Launching of STEM in Pakistan, Phase-I (Revised)

The development project titled “Launching of STEM in Pakistan Phase-I (Revised)”, was approved by DDWP of MoST on 04.08.2021 at a total cost of Rs. 993.784 million. STEM Project aligned with the PM’s Vision/National ST&I Policy (2022) and the URAAN Pakistan-5Es” National Economic Transformation Plan (2024-29) under Equity & Empowerment.

The project has been exclusively launched to promote STEM Education Program grade 9-12 students at National level (in Federal all Provinces, GB, AJK, and newly merged FATA) with special emphasis on gender equality (16 out of 44 are girl’s schools) and addresses issue of insufficient access to quality education in underserved regions, due to socioeconomic disparities and infrastructure gaps.

Project Objectives:

  • To officially launch STEM, the modern tool for promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education in Pakistan (in 50 HSS/Cadet Colleges in 1st phase).
  • To coordinate provision of specialized national and international capacity building programs on STEM education for science teachers and pedagogues.
  • To coordinate development, introduction and adoption of modern pedagogical tools & interventions for STEM including STEM framework/global best practices like IBSE/ LAMAP.
  • To equip our youth with meaningful learning through hands-on experiences, and improve their cognitive abilities.
  • To develop entrepreneurship skills amongst students through STEM education to make them job givers instead of job seekers.

The project’s unique design developed in consultation with national & international collaborators (Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), National Curriculum Council (NCC), Federal College of Education (FCE), National Institute of Electronics (NIE), Pakistan Engineering Council and Children Youth Science Centre (CYSC), CAST, China) focuses holistically all aspects of STEM Education Program for grade 9-12 by establishing STEM FABLABs including refurbishment of Science Labs, provision of STEM Equipment, STEM Modules Books (aligned with national curriculum), STEM Kits (working models), online STEM LMS, capacity building of Public Schools Science Teachers to evolve as STEM Mentors/Experts and execution of STEM Classes and student’s STEM Projects competitions. So far, 57 STEM FABLABs have been refurbished, STEM Equipment provided in 34 FABLABs, 04 STEM Modules Books (developed in consultation with Chinese counterpart CYSC-CAST) are distributed to 57 STEM FABLABs, 40 Master Trainers and 200 STEM teachers have been trained on STEM pedagogies.
