World Science Day

The celebration of World Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD) on November 10 has become an important and recurring feature of the Pakistan Science Foundation’s science-popularization efforts. Recognized internationally and proclaimed by UNESCO in 2001, this annual observance highlights the essential role of science in society and underscores the need to use scientific knowledge for peace, sustainability, and human development. Responding to UNESCO’s call, PSF—working closely with the Ministry of Science & Technology and UNESCO’s Islamabad Office—has consistently commemorated this day through a range of educational and public-engagement activities.

Each year, PSF organizes targeted programs designed to promote scientific awareness, especially among youth and educators. These include Conventions of Scientists, where leading researchers, technologists, and policy experts come together to discuss scientific progress, national challenges, and global trends. Such gatherings provide a platform for sharing insights, presenting research, and strengthening dialogue among Pakistan’s scientific community.

In addition, PSF holds student speech competitions, encouraging young people to express their understanding of scientific themes and the role of science in promoting peace, sustainability, and development. These competitions help students build confidence, communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for the importance of science in modern society. Alongside these activities, PSF organizes science exhibitions showcasing scientific models, innovative projects, and demonstrations from schools, universities, and research institutes. These exhibitions help the public engage directly with scientific concepts and witness the creative potential of young scientists.

By regularly observing World Science Day, PSF not only aligns Pakistan with global scientific initiatives but also reinforces its commitment to promoting scientific culture nationwide. The day serves as an opportunity to celebrate achievements, inspire students, encourage scientific thinking, and highlight the role of science as a tool for peace and sustainable development.
