Science Caravan Quetta Unit

The Quetta and Jaffarabad units of the Science Caravan serve as PSF’s outreach arms in Balochistan (and adjoining areas), bringing mobile science exhibitions, interactive experiments, planetarium/ astronomy shows, and science-popularization efforts to schools and communities that may lack access to well-equipped labs or formal scientific infrastructure.

For example, in October 2016 the Quetta Unit organized a science exhibition in the district of Qila Saifullah (Tehsil Muslim Bagh), which was attended by around 3,085 students from 13 schools. That same period, the Jaffarabad Unit arranged exhibitions — including one in District Zhob — which reportedly drew 2,686 students and 77 teachers from 21 schools.

Beyond mere exhibitions, these units also participate in significant national / global science-awareness events: for instance, during “World Science Day for Peace and Development” in 2017, the Quetta Unit held a science-awareness program at a residential school in Quetta, engaging more than 100 students and teachers; the Jaffarabad Unit organized a lecture at a government middle school in “Hub”, which was attended by 243 teachers and students.

Through their mobile labs — carrying working scientific models, lab equipment (for physics, chemistry, biology), astronomy/planetarium setups, and multimedia educational materials — the Quetta and Jaffarabad units help pupils in remote or under-resourced areas engage with hands-on science. This outreach is aligned with PSF’s broader mandate of science popularization to foster scientific curiosity, improve scientific literacy, and motivate youth toward STEM.
