Science Caravan Sukkur Unit

The PSF Science Caravan Sukkur Unit is one of the mobile science-exhibition teams operated by PSF to bring science awareness, hands-on experiments, and astronomy education to schools and communities in Sindh, especially in and around the city/region of Sukkur. The Caravan — a specially equipped mobile lab and exhibition bus — carries a variety of working scientific models (physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, IT), lab equipment for demonstrations and experiments, interactive multimedia materials, and a portable “star-lab / planetarium” system for astronomy shows.

Through the Sukkur Unit, PSF organizes mobile exhibitions in schools across different districts. For example, in December 2016, the Sukkur Unit arranged a science exhibition at a girls high school in Ranipur (Khairpur district), during which around 1,800 students and teachers from 14 schools participated. In another instance, the Sukkur Unit — described as “Science Caravan Sindh Unit, Sukkur” — arranged an exhibition at a high school in District Larkana in December 2015, which was visited by nearly 2,970 students, teachers and staff from 17 schools.

Moreover, over the years, the Sukkur Unit has been part of multi-school exhibitions involving dozens of schools at once. Their mobile lab and planetarium help bring science — often out of reach in under-resourced or remote schools — directly to students, giving them a chance to engage with real scientific models, experiments, and astronomy demonstrations. This outreach helps foster scientific curiosity, awareness, and education across Sindh’s schools.

In recent times, the Sukkur Unit remains active: in 2025, it took part in a “STEAM Regional And Provincial Festivals 2025” organized by a regional foundation at a public school in Sukkur — deploying its mobile science lab and exhibition stall as part of the festival.

In short, the PSF Science Caravan Sukkur Unit plays an important role in PSF’s broader mandate of science popularization: by making science accessible to students and communities in Sindh, especially those who might not otherwise get exposure to labs or planetarium-like astronomy presentations, thereby promoting science education, literacy, and interest among youth.
