Science Caravan Tandojam Unit

The Tandojam Unit of PSF’s Science Caravan brings mobile science exhibitions to schools and communities across Sindh — carrying working scientific models, lab-equipment for physics, chemistry and biology experiments, interactive multimedia, and a portable planetarium (star-lab) to introduce astronomy and space-science concepts. Through these exhibitions, the Unit aims to spark scientific curiosity and promote science education in areas that might lack proper lab facilities or science-education resources. For instance, in 2017 the Tandojam Unit arranged a caravan exhibition at GBH School, Taluka Daulatpur (Shaheed Benazirabad district), where roughly 1,445 students and 41 teachers from nine schools visited. On another occasion in 2017 the Unit organized an exhibition across schools and colleges in Dera Allah Yar, covering 10 schools and 2 colleges, reaching around 2,427 students and more than 100 teachers/guests.

Beyond exhibitions, the Tandojam Unit collaborates with Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam — for example to help integrate a more modern and effective science curriculum at the secondary-school level. According to PSF officials, this cooperation helps ensure that students not only view science exhibits or shows, but also gain hands-on experience through experiments — making science more engaging and accessible in schools.

In this way, the Tandojam Unit performs an important role under PSF’s broader mandate to popularize science across Pakistan: by offering mobile science-labs and planetarium-style outreach to remote or under-resourced areas, and by supporting science education reform through partnerships with institutions such as SAU.
